Loops and iTunes

I have my MP3 collection on a firewire drive attached to my G5 at work. Rather than carrying that drive around with me (it's not really designed to be transported), I just listen to tunes away from work on my iPod. That means I have to try to stay on top of what is on my iPod. I admit that I am sometimes not very good at that, so I get stuck with stuff on my iPod that I wish weren't there....or I am missing something I wish *were* there.

So I started trying to keep some things on my PowerBook "at all times". A nice idea, but it turned into a pain to transfer the stuff to my iPod from my TiBook and from my G5. So I bailed on that idea, too.

I have lots of "loop" CD's that I used to use for Acid back when I used Acid (the software, mind you, not the other stuff...besides, that other stuff is illegal ). Now that I have Live, I use the loops for it. Acid had a nice interface for "testing" the sounds. For some reason or another, I don't really like to use Live's function for that. Using a Finder window isn't a lot better since the .aif/.wav files are filed on my disk according to filename, etc. So...finally...I read about someone using iTunes to catalog these sounds. It's a simple and beautiful idea...but one that I probably never would have thought of on my own.

I'm in the midst of adding the ID Tags to the MP3's that I am ripping in off these loop disks now. Lots of fun.
