Is this a bi-polar purchase?

I hope that this isn't too bad a thing to have done.  I've wanted an HDTV for a while now.  The TV I had when I first moved into this apartment was a cheap little RCA.  It worked okay, but it just wasn't appropriate for me!

I suppose it's not completely necessary for me to have an HDTV, but it's not completely necessary for *anyone* to have an HDTV, is it?  I dunno....

I guess one of the reasons I decided to do it is because I watch a fair amount of TV at night these days.  After all, once I have my papers graded, there's not much for me to do other than a few particular things that I enjoy.  But that only goes so far.

Anyhow, this TV is very cool.  The specifics that I dig are the HDMI inputs, the picture, and the digital out.  Unfortunately because I got the "floor model" from Best Buy (apparently this model has been discontinued), the remote control didn't come with it.  I have one on order, but it won't be here for another couple of days.  Anyhow, the TV will "upscale" a signal that comes to it via one of the HDMI inputs.  That means that a 480i signal can be displayed at 720i.  This can only be done on the remote, though.  Alas.... i will find out how it looks in a few days.  It may "stretch" the picture to a point that it looks too crappy, but I hope not.

One nice thing about the new TV is that it allowed me to be magnanimous.  I gave my other one to my neighbor.  He's a former student at PC who is sticking around this year until his girlfriend (who is currently in my Counterpoint class and was in the Form & Analysis class last year) graduates.  He's had a little 13" TV that got three channels.  The one I gave him at least has an SDTV tuner.  SDTV tuners allow you to pick up pver the air HDTV signals - although not at HDTV quality, of course.  Anyhow, they now have about 10 channels.  So it was nice to be able to help him out as I helped myself out.
